Sept. 27: For some variety before starting a new series, today’s recommended diamond is going to be a Heart shaped diamond.

The diamond is a 1.07 carat diamond, with F color and SI1 clarity. The diamond is a Premium cut Heart shaped diamond, and it sells for $4940.

The Heart shaped diamond is a lovely diamond symbolic of love and innocence. The Heart shape is a very brilliant stone, similar to the brilliance of a Round diamond. It is usually used as a pendant stone. The Heart shaped diamond must be cut by a very skilled diamond cutter, in order to ensure that the lobes of the heart are even and balanced, smooth and well-defined, while maximizing the brilliance available in the diamond.

Sept. 24: Today’s diamond is a Pear shaped diamond.

The diamond is a 1.50 carat diamond, with G color and SI1 clarity. The diamond is a Premium cut Pear diamond, and it sells for $8,500.

Pear shape diamond, also called Teardrop, has a lot of leeway with the clarity and color levels, because of the way the facets are cut. The ratio, and therefore the shape of the pear, is great, at 1.62.

Sept. 20: Today’s recommended diamond is a Cushion cut diamond, and we are getting into the higher end Cushion cuts now. Acouple more days of Cushion cut diamonds and then we will move on to something else. If you have any requests of what you would like to see a series focusing on, email me and let me know.

Today’s diamond is a 1.70 carat diamond, with G color and VS2 clarity. The diamond is an ideal cut Cushion diamond, and it sells for $12,700.

This diamond has a ratio that I consider in the perfect range – 1.05-1.08 is my perfect as I think that is the best shape for a Cushion cut diamond, being just slightly off-square but not yet rectangular. Again, as I posted yesterday, that is simply my preference for Cushion cut diamonds.

It is not the cleanest of diamonds, as some of its flaws can be seen under magnification, but it is eye clean, and the flaws, even seen under magnification don’t really affect the diamonds appearance. It is not perfect, but it is a well priced diamond that is really nice.

Sept. 19: Today’s recommended diamond is a Cushion cut diamond, and we are getting into the higher end Cushion cuts now.

The diamond is a 1.51 carat, with F color and VS2 clarity. The diamond is an Ideal cut Cushion diamond, and it sells for $11,600.

I looked around at a lot of diamonds today, both high quality diamonds and more on the lower quality end of the price range and a lot in between as well, and I saw such wide range of shapes for the Cushion cut diamond. It doesn’t even matter if you are looking at only high end stones or low end. In all the ranges there is a wide-range of shapes from rounder to squarer to more rectangular. Beauty is really in the eye of the beholder and some will prefer a rounder look, some a squarer appearance and some a more rectangular look. You cannot buy a Cushion cut diamond blind, without at least seeing a picture of the diamond. While you can buy blind and know what to expect from the quality, just from seeing the cerificate and some details of the diamond, you still have no idea if the shape will look nice to you or not.

When selecting today’s diamond I rejected a number of diamonds that had qualifying details yet I did not like the way they looked – I don’t like the more rectangular Cushions, nor the rounder ones. I prefer the squarer diamonds, though not a perfect square. And while I might like some that are slightly rectangular or rounder, I would have to see it first to see that I like it.

Sept. 16: Today’s recommended diamond is a Cushion cut diamond.

The diamond is a 1.50 carat diamond, with G color and VS2 clarity. The diamond is an ideal cut Cushion cut diamond, and it sells for $10,300.

The diamond, while not perfect (thick girdle, slightly large culet which means it will be visible when looking through the Table of the diamond), is a beautiful diamond, in both shape and general appearance.

Sept. 15: Today’s recommended diamond is a Cushion cut diamond.

The diamond is a 1.40 carat diamond, with F color and VS2 clarity. The diamond is an ideal cut Cushion diamond and it sells for $8,650.

With the more open-faceted diamonds, the larger the diamond is, the more noticeable the color and clarity become, making the need for better quality more acute on the larger diamonds. Cushion cut being a more open-faceted diamond, also follows the same concerns. That means the larger the diamond gets, the more careful you have to be with the color and clarity, as tints and spots will be more noticeable.

Sept. 14: Today’s recommended diamond is a Cushion cut diamond.

The diamond is a 1.34 carat diamond, with G color and VS2 clarity. The diamond is an Ideal cut Cushion diamond, and it sells for $7,210.

Sept. 13: Today’s recommended diamond is a Cushion cut diamond, but I am going for slightly better quality today. I haven’t been 100% comfortable with the last 2 or 3 picks, and I think I might have been compromising a bit much on the quality.

The diamond is a 1.21 carat diamond, with G color and VS2 clarity. The diamond is an Ideal cut Cushion diamond, and it sells for $6,310.

This diamond has great proportions and, I think, a great ratio of 1.07 and is very eye clean.

Sept. 12: Today’s recommended diamond is a Cushion cut diamond.

The diamond is a 1.21 carat diamond, with G color and SI2 clarity. The diamond is an Ideal cut Cushion diamond, and it sells for $5,170.

The diamond is SI2, but if you take a look at the diamond, it is unusually eye-clean for a diamond rated SI2. The feathers and stuff are all around the sides, which makes it reasonably eye-clean. That makes this a good buy..

Sept. 6: Today’s recommended diamond is a Cushion cut diamond.

The diamond is a 1.04 carat diamond, with F color and SI1 clarity. The diamond is a Premium cut Cushion diamond, and it sells for $3,240.

Cushion cuts are interesting as their appearance and beauty are very subjectively determined. Some people will like Cushion cuts that are more square, and some will like more rectangular. This particular diamond is a bit more rectangular, with a ratio of 1.15:1.

Sept. 5: After spending some time with the Asscher family, it is time to finally move on. Now we will move to another elegant fancy cut diamond – the Cushion cut.

We are going to start off the series with a smaller diamond, for the lower budget consumer, and then move up and around. Today’s diamond is a 0.91 carat diamond, with G color and SI1 clarity. The diamond is an ideal cut Cushion diamond, and it sells for $2,810.

The Cushion cut has large open facets, and will show color tinge and inclusions more than Round diamonds do, similar to Princess and Emerald diamonds, and the level of the color and clarity need to be pretty decent to have a great looking diamond. SI1 is really the low end of the recommended levels for clarity – obviously you can go lower based on your budget, and you can probably find some decent SI2 level diamonds, but SI1 is the low recommendation. Some would even limit it to VS2.

The diamond is a 1.01 carat diamond, with G color and VS1 clarity. The diamond is an Ideal cut Asscher diamond, and it sells for $4730.

Sept. 1: Today’s recommended diamond is an Asscher cut. We are nearing the end of the Asscher cut series.. Next week I will move on to other shapes..

The diamond is a 1.20 carat diamond, with G color and VS1 clarity. The diamond is a Premium cut Asscher diamond, and it sells for $5990.

The diamond has a little more depth than preferred, but it is very clean and is selling for a great price.

I would recommend this 18k White Gold Bow Tie Channel Set Brilliant Diamond Engagement Ring that sells for $1000 . This is a channel set with 8 round brilliant side stones, with a tapered bow-tie setting that accentuates the elegance of the Asscher cut diamond.
