Jan. 25: Today’s recommended diamond is the best Round Brilliant diamond for $22.5k.

The best Round Brilliant diamond for $22.5k is this 2.14 carat diamond, with I color and VS2 clarity. The diamond is an Ideal cut Round Brilliant diamond, and it sells for $22,300.

I also want to show you how much each factor makes a difference. I found a very similar diamond to the one I just recommended. The inclusions are very similar, except they are much more prominent. The diamond is rated SI1 instead of VS2. The price is very similar (the 2nd diamond is a bit more expensive), but because the diamond is rated SI1, this price range for the diamond makes the carat size much larger.

If you are willing to compromise on the clarity a bit (it still wont be that noticeable to the naked eye, and for sure not once it is inside a ring and nobody is inspecting it), you can get a 2.50 carat diamond that looks just as beautiful instead of a 2.14 carat diamond. That is a significant different.

Because this diamond is a Hearts & Arrows, it is certified by the AGS and not the GIA. The GIA does not certify H&A diamonds.

As you can see from the image, this diamond is pretty eye-clean, though not perfect (if it was perfect it would not be rated SI1!!) for a diamond rated SI1.

I like the Girdle size as described – Medium to Slightly Thick, and this is a beautiful stone, with great proportions that will maximize brilliance.

This diamond is unusually eye-clean for a diamond rated with SI1 clarity, though it is not perfect (it would not be rated SI1 if it was!), making it especially great value. Better bang for your buck!

Jan. 16: Some people have asked me why I pretty much only recommend diamonds from the James Allen website. They point to other websites and show that at times diamonds can be found cheaper elsewhere. They are 100% correct. I do not recommend James Allen diamonds because they are the cheapest that can be found on the Internet.

I recommend [mostly] James Allen diamonds because of their technology that allows you to see the actual diamond image online, and magnify it, making buying diamonds online the closest possible experience to buying in a store. Sometimes JA will be cheaper on a given diamond than other sites, and sometimes it will not be the cheapest. Even when they are not necessarily the cheapest, their Virtual Loupe technology cuts your risk significantly, and to me that makes a big difference. Buying from James Allen means you are not buying diamonds blind.

Whether you can actually compare similar diamonds on different sites and say one is cheaper than the other, or not, is a different discussion. Perhaps I will write an article on that topic.

Jan. 3, 2011: Today’s diamond recommendation will be a Round Brilliant diamond.

The diamond range I chose to look at today was a pretty good quality diamond. I wanted a large diamond, in the 1.20 carat range, and I was looking at only G color diamonds and VS2 clarity. So today’s diamond is the best valued diamond I found in the 1.20 c, G-VS2 range.

The diamond is a 1.20 carat diamond, with G color and VS2 clarity. The diamond is an Ideal cut Round diamond, and it sells for $8,100.

This diamond is a beauty. It has some flaws, as you can see on the certificate, but they are all hidden nicely in the facets and cannot be seen to the naked eye. This diamond is a great buy.

Jan. 2, 2011: I hope you enjoyed your holiday and New Years celebrations. I am starting off the new year with a basic diamond recommendation. A reasonably priced Round diamond.

The diamond is a 1.01 carat diamond, with H color and SI1 clarity. The diamond is a Premium cut Round diamond, and it sells for $4,180.

This diamond has nice color to it, is just over a full carat and the flaws are hard to find even though they are there. The Girdle is faceted, which is an additional bonus.
