Dec. 27: Today’s piece of jewelry for a holiday gift is going to be a bracelet. I selected a gold bracelet, and it is really nice and unique as it is two toned, alternating with white and yellow gold links.

The bracelet is called the Two Tone Alternate Link Bracelet in 14k White & Yellow Gold, and it sells for $530.

Dec. 22: James Allen just announced a new sale for the holidays, offering all preset diamond stud earrings at a 10% discount, so I figured it is worth checking out what styles they are selling and what their pricing is like.

In general they have a beautiful selection of jewelry on their site. I am only looking at their preset studs though, so as to take advantage of the newest sale.

Dec. 20: With the holidays fast approaching, Christmas and New Years, I am going to look at different pieces of jewelry instead of loose diamonds.

Pink Keshi Freshwater Pearl Strand I love these pearls. They are not the usual standard fare white round pearl. Rather they are pink and have intricate shapes that seem very natural and ornate.

The diamond is a 1.02 carat diamond, with I color and VS2 clarity. The diamond is an Ideal cut Cushion diamond, and it sells for $3220.

I think this diamond has a really beautiful shape.

Dec. 14: Today’s recommended diamond is a Cushion cut diamond.

The diamond is a 1.20 carat diamond, with I color and VS2 clarity. The diamond is an Ideal cut Cushion diamond, and it sells for $4,950.

This diamond has a beautiful shape, which is very important in any diamond, but especially in Cushion cut diamonds. When the diamond is not so symmetrical it causes two main problems: it does not look nice (it might have a lopsided appearance), and it allows too much leakage of light or deflecting of light making it lose much of its luster.

The biggest problem with this diamond is that it has a large culet. The large culet is not even such a problem. The culet is an extra facet on the bottom of the diamond. Today, diamond cutters almost always close the facet, forming the point on the bottom of the diamond. Sometimes they leave it open and make it into a facet. If the facet is large, one could theoretically look straight down through the diamond from the top surface and see out the bottom. I don’t think this is really such an issue, as when you are wearing the diamond you are not generally looking at the diamond from that angle.

Dec. 13: Today’s recommended diamond is a Cushion cut diamond.

The diamond is a 1.60 carat diamond, with J color and VS2 clarity. The diamond is an Ideal cut Cushion diamond, and it sells for $6,110.

This diamond is a great buy. Because the diamond is rated at a color J, the diamond is much larger than other diamonds in this price range. This diamond is 1.60 carats, and the J color hardly affects the diamond.

Dec. 12: Today’s recommended diamond is an Emerald cut diamond.

The diamond is a 3.26 carat diamond, with K color and VS2 clarity, The diamond is a Premium cut Emerald diamond, and it sells for $17,920.

The diamond has a bit of a yellowish tinge, but it is not strong, and it has a warm feel to it, rather than the normal icy cold appearance of a colorless diamond. The diamond is very square, and is eye clean despite a small cluster of inclusions according to the certificate.

Dec. 9: Today’s recommended diamond is an Emerald cut diamond.

Today I am doing something a bit out of the ordinary, for me. The diamond is a 2.52 carat diamond, with K color and VVS2 clarity. The diamond is a Premium cut Emerald diamond, and it sells for $12,250.

Unfortunately, I don’t have a picture to show you here, as it is a really beautiful diamond, so you will have to go check it out on the James Allen website for yourself.

I say this is out of the ordinary, and it is for two reasons. I normally do not take such a high color, and I normally do not take such a low clarity. My eye is sensitive to color, and I can almost always sense the tinting in the high colors fairly quickly even when it is only a bit. Also, I dont go with the low clarity ratings usually because they are unnecessary and you can save money on them and put that money into making a different aspect of the diamond nicer. Or just put the money away.

So why did I recommend a K color VVS2 clarity today?

The Emerald diamond has long, open facets. That exposes an Emerald cut diamond to two “problems”:

More color showing
Inclusions being more visible

With those long and open facets it makes it difficult to find an “eye clean” diamond, so I went with a better clarity than usual. And despite the high color, this diamond does not really show much of the color.

The benefits of the large and open facets, by the way, is that you get these long and strong flashes of light off those facets.

And, because of the high color, the diamond is a much larger size to make up the balance. So you are getting a great diamond, very large, at a great price.
