H&A Great Symmetry

Hearts and Arrows diamonds are basically diamonds cut with great symmetry. It gets the name because of the appearance of hearts and arrowheads in the diamond. If the

diamond is cut symmetrical, you should be able to see them within the diamond.

When looking from above, the crown, you will see a series of 8 arrowheads, and when looking from below, the pavilion, you will see a series of 8 heart shapes.

These images are created from the symmetry. The diamond’s table must be exactly perpendicular to the bottom of the diamond – the pavilion. It must also be cut to have great symmetry of its major facets and have particular lengths of its lower girdle facets.

Hearts And Arrows Expense

Hearts and Arrows are more expensive for a few reasons. They take greater expertise in diamond cutting to get such perfect symmetry. Also, it takes much more work to cut it so exact and precise. Another reason is that there is more waste, with more of the stone being cut away, in order to get the precise angles. And last but not least, a more beautiful diamond has been created in the process.
