Cushion Cut
Cushion Cut
The “Cushion Cut” diamond is a very unique shape, which helps it overcome some failings.
The cushion cut diamond is a shape that looks like pillow. It is a combination of an oval with rounded off corners, and a shape varying from square to rectangle. The stone also has very large facets.
One of the failings of the cushion cut is the low number of facets – it has only 60 facets, and the fact that the facets themselves are larger. This makes the diamond really need a better level of clarity.
The cushion cut, also known as the pillow cut or the candlelight cut, has a romantic appeal to it, because of the unique shape, and despite its lesser brilliance, it stands out far above other more brilliant cuts.
What To Look For In Cushion Cut Diamonds
To really make the most of a cushion cut, as long as it is within your budget constraints, you should not get anything lower than a G color cushion stone, nor any clarity lower than a VS2, tops SI1. The cut is less important in this type of stone, and a Good cut will be fine.
For the setting, you want to go with a minimum four pronged setting that will really show off the unique beauty of the cushion shape..
